I am your down to earth Reiki practitioner. I have a grounding, gentle and warm presence that I bring to my Reiki practice. I see Reiki as being a complementary part of a holistic and centered life. Sandtray therapy is a great tactile approach that can get both sides of your brain talking in order to help improve some trauma symptoms or it can just help you when you feel stuck. I’ve also taught clients how to box in order to work on empowerment. Holding space for my clients is one of my greatest strengths as a therapist and fellow HSP. 

In terms of good old fashioned “talk therapy”, I lean towards using mindfulness based approaches such as Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT). ACT focuses on accepting that there will be challenges in life and then using your values to make committed action to respond in healthier ways. I also tailor my approach to meet your specific needs.

I think we all know how hard this journey can be. Over 40 million people experience anxiety regularly, and over 17 million people have had at least one depressive episode. Therapy can sound daunting or stuffy, however, I thoroughly enjoy making therapy a space that is comfortable, safe, and warm where we can work together to break down life’s barriers and foster healing, learning, and growth. Therapy doesn’t have to be “all about the bad stuff” because sometimes breaking out in laughter, smiles, and happiness can be naturally healing within itself.  My experiences and passions led me to carve a niche for myself specializing in trauma treatment, especially those who experienced trauma as a child or in a relationship. I am trained in a multitude of therapies, but mostly gravitate towards using Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), and Emotion Focused Therapy (EFT). While these therapies are all beneficial in treating trauma, they all can be used for an assortment of reasons. EMDR in particular can be a great tool to use as an alternative to talk therapy and can be used beyond just treating trauma.

I completed my Masters in Social Work in 2015 from the University of Illinois at Chicago, and currently have my LCSW. I specifically chose social work as my route to become a therapist as they utilize a multicultural, strength-based, and systems perspective when providing clinical care with individuals.

My husband and I moved from Chicago to Doha, Qatar in the Middle East. in 2008. While there I started exploring many different exercise modalities and began registering for a vast variety of trainings. I have always been fascinated with babies and pregnant women so the natural step was to specialize in working with these demographics.

But it wasn’t until I had my first son in 2013 that this passion really evolved. I started scouring books, taking courses and seeking out mentors to gather as much information as was possible regarding this subject. Having my first baby in a foreign country, without family to help and cultural differences to acknowledge, was a rather scary situation for awhile. Often, I felt overwhelmed, lost, excited, elated, devastated all at once, as do so many new mothers. I was dealing with postpartum anxiety and some common postpartum dysfunctions but had no one to guide me through these. I became so frustrated as I felt my years of study and specialization should have prepared me to work with these conditions on my own. But childbirth and the recovery and rehabilitation process is not a checklist of do’s and don’ts. It will look different for every woman. I didn’t feel supported or heard by care providers so I made it a mission to get answers for myself by further specialized trainings, such as becoming an ICEA Professional Childbirth Educator for women in similar situations and began to build a support network or community in Doha. I didn’t set out to exclusively work with pre and postnatal women and still consider that to be only part of my professional identity but I truly have a passion for helping women be their fullest, truest self, no matter what stage of life they are in.
